P*DA x D&AD
DesignSingapore Council President’s Design Award D&AD Awards 2019
P*DA has once again made another international appearance, this time exhibiting in the very heart of London! In partnership with D&AD, we took stage in The Old Truman Brewery, featuring the latest crop of P*DA 2018 recipients in conjunction with this year’s D&AD award winners. This creative spectacular was part of the D&AD Festival that took place from 21-23 May earlier this year, celebrating the world’s best in craft, creativity and culture. Moreover, their festival theme on ‘Shaping the Future’ strongly echoes with P*DA’s emphasis on elevating impactful designs that transforms societies, advocating the agency of design to make a difference within our larger global community.
Apart from introducing our 11 recipients from P*DA 2018, this multimedia exhibition guides you through the heart behind these projects from its ideation to its finesse. We lead our viewers through this multi-layered process of design, generating new dialogues through a series of visual storytelling and participatory engagement—where we involved the public to pin their favourite P*DA projects up on a board. D&AD also invited Larry Peh from &Larry to deliver a talk on the final day, closing the creative festival on a high with a full-house! Larry Peh, our multiple award-winning P*DA Designer of the Year in 2016, shared the stage with other renowned creative giants as he spoke about preserving traditions for the future. Drawing from some of his unconventional collaborations with home-grown brands like Tong Heng, Bynd Artisan, and Direct Funeral, he demonstrated how local businesses can stay globally relevant without comprising on their soul. ‘We march backward into the future’ he revealed.
Apart from the support from DesignSingapore Council (DSG), Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) and D&AD London, this exhibition was also made possible with special thanks to the creative collaboration between Modular Unit (Singapore) and Mobile Studio Architects (London), directed by our Design Associates based in London. At the core of such outreaches, we hope that these international engagements will continue to elevate Singapore’s design on a global scale, facilitating this cross-pollination of culture as we continually push the boundaries in this field of art and design.
