In a time and age where anti-semetic sentiments are increasing all over the world, Singapore has stood by and remained a friend of Israel. As we celebrate our 50 years of independence (SG50), this event was brought together to a convey powerful message — that Singapore honours and celebrates the Jews in Singapore for the role they have played in helping our nation in its early stages of growth. We hosted a total of 1000 Singaporean and Israeli guests along with several influential jewish figures, namely Her Excellency Ambassador Yael Rubinstein(Ambassador of Israel in Singapore), Rabbi Mordechai Abergel(Rabbi of Singapore Jewish Welfare Board) and Chairman Eliezer (Moodi) Sandberg(Chairman of Keren Hayseod United Israel Appeal). We even got the Prime Minister of Israel, PM Benjamin Netanyahu to deliver a personal video message during the night. This was the first of such event held in Singapore.
Despite the abounding similarities between Israel and Singapore, the Jewish culture widely differs from that of ours. Plunging all the way back into historic biblical times, I began to uncover their richness in tradition and symbolism and further interpreted them into a visual language. A depth in understanding of both cultures was extremely critical for an effective and sensible design outcome that could visually interweve both nationalities together.
